What does the Planning Board do?
The Planning Board acts as an advisory board to the Town Board of Commissioners. The Planning Board hears and makes recommendations on the Comprehensive Plan, small area plans, rezoning requests, conditional use permits, Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) text amendments and major subdivision plans. The Planning Board makes recommendations to the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners or other governmental agencies to ensure proper planning for the future growth of Waxhaw and what is deemed to be in the best interest of the Town of Waxhaw.
What skills do I need to serve on the Planning Board?
Individuals with a background in surveying, engineering, land development, real estate, project management, construction management, property management and people familiar with economic development and land use laws are a good fit for this Board. Members must reside within the town limits of Waxhaw.
What is the time commitment?
The Planning Board meets every third Monday of the month at 6:30 PM in the Community Room at the Waxhaw Police Department, 3620 Providence Road South. Meetings can last anywhere from 15 minutes or 2 – 3 hours depending on the number of and complexity of the projects needed to be reviewed. There are 7 Regular Members and 2 Alternate Members who all serve staggered 3-year terms. Members are limited to serving 2 consecutive terms on any one Town board/commission and may only serve on one board/commission at a time.

View the Boards and Commission Volunteer Information page and complete the online application. Applications will be automatically forwarded to the Clerk's office and presented to the Board of Commissioners for review. The Board of Commissioners appoints all members to the Planning Board.
